Eretmocerus-System - parasitic wasp of whiteflies that thrives at high temperatures

How does Eretmocerus-System control whiteflies?

  • Targeted whitefly controlEretmocerus eremicus parasitises whitefly larvae and provides effective control of both greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum) and tobacco whitefly (Bemisia tabaci).
  • Dual mode of action – besides parasitising whitefly larvae, the parasitoid also kills additional larvae through host feeding, accelerating the reduction of whitefly populations.
  • Highly effective at high temperaturesE. eremicus remains active at temperatures above 30°C (86°F), making it an excellent solution for warm growing conditions.
  • Less sensitive to pesticides – compared to other whitefly parasitoids, E. eremicus is more tolerant of many plant protection products.
  • Perfect for IPM programmes – combine Eretmocerus-System with Encarsia-System for even more effective and sustainable whitefly control.

When should you introduce Eretmocerus-System?

  • Start preventatively – introduce Eretmocerus-System from the beginning of the crop or as soon as the first whitefly larvae are detected.
  • Adjust the release rate to pest pressure – increase the dosage as whitefly populations develop.
  • Focus on hotspots – make additional releases in and around infested areas.
  • Repeat introductions – for preventative programmes, make 1 to 2 releases every two weeks. For curative control, apply weekly releases for at least three weeks.

How do you release Eretmocerus-System?

  • Hang the cards or distribute the pupae – spread the product evenly throughout the crop while avoiding direct sunlight.
  • Handle the pupae carefully – apply them to a dry surface and avoid touching the pupae.
  • Ensure even distribution – uniform distribution throughout the crop promotes rapid establishment of the parasitoids.
  • Combine when needed – use Eretmocerus-System together with Encarsia-System for optimum biological whitefly control.

Under which conditions should you use Eretmocerus-System?

  • Optimum activity from 20°C (68°F) – the best results are achieved at an average greenhouse temperature of at least 20°C (68°F), although successful introductions are also possible at lower temperatures.
  • Remains active at high temperaturesE. eremicus continues to perform well above 30°C (86°F), making it particularly suitable for warm greenhouse conditions.
  • Monitor performance – parasitised whitefly pupae turn beige and show a perfectly round exit hole after adult emergence.
  • Ideal for integrated pest management – thanks to its high temperature tolerance and excellent compatibility with Encarsia-System, Eretmocerus-System is a key component of an effective IPM strategy against whiteflies.
