Aphelinus-System – reliable control of large aphid species
How does Aphelinus abdominalis control aphids?
- Specialised – targets several large aphid species, including potato aphid, foxglove aphid, strawberry aphid and blueberry aphid.
- Dual mode of action – adult wasps feed directly on aphids while also parasitising both aphid nymphs and adults.
- Long-lasting control – Aphelinus abdominalis builds up its population more slowly than other aphid parasitoids but remains active for much longer.
- Reliable in warm conditions – more tolerant of high temperatures and less susceptible to hyperparasitism than many other aphid parasitoids.
- Stays where it is needed – its short search range keeps the parasitic wasps active in local aphid hotspots.
When should you introduce Aphelinus-System?
- Start preventatively – introduce Aphelinus abdominalis before aphid populations build up.
- Increase the dosage when aphids appear – adjust the release rate according to pest density.
- Combine for curative control – for existing infestations, combine with Ervi-System and Aphidoletes-System. Severe infestations can also be controlled in combination with Adalia-System.
How do you release Aphelinus-System?
- Mix gently – carefully rotate the bottle horizontally to ensure an even distribution of the mummies.
- Apply to the crop – sprinkle the contents onto horizontal leaves or into Bio-Boxes suspended in the crop.
- Keep off the soil – never place the mummies directly onto the soil or growing substrate.
- Leave undisturbed – keep the material dry and do not move it from the release site for several days.
Under which conditions should you use Aphelinus-System?
- Wide temperature range – Aphelinus abdominalis is active between 10°C and 32°C (50°F-89°F).
- Ideal for summer crops – thanks to its lower susceptibility to hyperparasitism, Aphelinus-System is an excellent choice for aphid control during the warmer months.
