Cryptolaemus-System - Destroys mealybug hotspots
How does Cryptolaemus-System control mealybugs?
- Targeted control – both the larvae and adults of Cryptolaemus montrouzieri effectively control several mealybug species, including Planococcus citri and Pseudococcus viburni.
- Highly voracious – adult ladybirds and older larvae consume an average of 30 to 70 mealybugs per day, rapidly reducing mealybug hotspots.
- Rapid population build-up – females lay up to 400 eggs directly within mealybug colonies, ensuring newly hatched larvae immediately have access to prey.
- Excellent searching ability – the adults are strong fliers that quickly locate mealybug hotspots throughout the crop.
- A flexible IPM solution – can temporarily survive on alternative prey such as aphids and scale insects, allowing populations to remain established in the crop.
When should you introduce Cryptolaemus-System?
- Start at the first signs of mealybugs – introduce Cryptolaemus-System as soon as the first mealybugs are detected.
- Focus on hotspots – release the product in and around infested areas to establish populations quickly where they are needed most.
- Suitable for preventative and curative use – adjust the release rate according to pest pressure, from general preventative introductions to intensive hotspot treatments.
How do you release Cryptolaemus-System?
- Use Bio-Boxes – divide the contents of the container evenly between several Bio-Boxes.
- Hang them within the crop – position the Bio-Boxes in the crop canopy, away from direct sunlight.
- Distribute release points evenly – ensure good coverage throughout the crop, especially in and around mealybug hotspots.
- Control ants – ants protect mealybugs because they feed on their honeydew, reducing the effectiveness of Cryptolaemus montrouzieri. Effective ant control will significantly improve results.
Under which conditions should you use Cryptolaemus-System?
- Optimum activity between 22°C and 25°C (72-77°F) – ladybirds are most active and egg laying is highest at temperatures between 22°C and 25°C (72-77°F) with a relative humidity of 70 to 80%.
- Avoid extreme temperatures – activity decreases below 16°C (61°F) and above 33°C (91°F).
- Performs best in sunny conditions – Cryptolaemus montrouzieri is most active during sunny weather. Under hot conditions, the adults naturally move to cooler parts of the crop.
- Monitor establishment after 2 to 3 weeks – once established, adult ladybirds can be observed hunting within mealybug colonies. The larvae closely resemble mealybugs but can be distinguished by their much faster movement.
