How does Hypoaspis-System control soil-dwelling pests?
- Targeted control of soil pests – Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Hypoaspis miles) is a predatory mite that lives in the upper soil layer. It feeds on thrips pupae, fungus gnat larvae, shore fly larvae and Duponchelia.
- Active in the top layer of the soil – both nymphs and adults actively search for prey and can consume up to 5 prey per day.
- Long-lasting protection – Hypoaspis-System can survive up to seven weeks without prey, allowing the predatory mites to remain active in the crop for an extended period.

- A single application is often sufficient – adjust the dosage according to pest pressure.
- Early introductions give the best results – Hypoaspis-System is most effective when pest populations are still low.
How do you release Hypoaspis-System?
- Apply to moist soil – distribute the contents evenly over the upper soil layer or growing medium.
- Mix the bottle before use – gently rotate the bottle horizontally to ensure an even distribution of the predatory mites.
- Leave the bottle in the crop – this allows any remaining predatory mites to emerge after application.
- Keep the soil moist – prevent the growing medium from drying out to ensure successful establishment of the predatory mites.
Under which conditions should you use Hypoaspis-System?
- Active from 10°C (50°F) – the predatory mite can be introduced year-round when temperatures remain above 10°C (50°F).
- Moist soil is essential – a relative humidity above 70% and moist soil provide the best results.
- Monitor establishment – adults and nymphs can be found in the top 1 to 2 cm of the soil.
