Biobest recently reached a milestone with the sale of its 100th Entomatic™, the automated dispenser for beneficial insects and mites. The 100th unit went to Fresa, a Belgian strawberry grower, where Biobest celebrated the achievement together with the grower's team.
Developed with Hortiworld and available exclusively from Biobest, the Entomatic™ applies beneficials quickly, evenly and gently across the crop. By automating a traditionally labour-intensive task, it reduces labour while improving the accuracy of biological control programmes. Its modular design adapts to a wide range of greenhouse and open-field crops.
“For fresa, Entomatic™ makes it much easier to apply beneficials. I think we might even be able to motivate our children to start applying beneficials now, “ says Alain Luts, owner of Fresa.
For Sam Gui, Market Development Manager High Tech IPM at Biobest “Mechanical application of beneficials is a game changer. It helps streamline the introduction process and contributes to a more reliable IPM programme. In today’s modern growing environment, it is striking that valuable beneficial insects are still sometimes applied manually, almost like shaking salt over a meal, while efficient automated alternatives are available.”
