Root disease protection and suppression powered by ASPERELLO® T34 Biocontrol®

In the battle against potentially devastating root diseases like Fusarium and Pythium, ornamental and protected vegetable growers worldwide are turning to the highly efficient and sustainable solution - ASPERELLO® T34 Biocontrol®.

These soil-borne pathogens are silent killers – causing root rot, damping off, stunted growth and even plant collapse. Left unchecked, they can devastate germination rates and reduce crop quality and yields – seriously impacting grower returns.

Living shield for roots

ASPERELLO® contains a powerful strain of Trichoderma asperellum (strain T34) that forms a symbiotic association with plant roots, creating a living barrier against harmful pathogens.

Prevention and suppression

When applied early, ideally during propagation, ASPERELLO® has a competitive advantage. This beneficial fungus colonises the root zone first, denying pathogens the space and nutrients they need. In addition, the Trichoderma actively feeds on the hyphae, sclerotia and spores (survival structures) of Fusarium and Pythium, reducing disease pressure at source.

While Trichoderma is often abundant in the soil rhizosphere, strains are not naturally found in manufactured horticultural substrates. However, ASPERELLO® will readily colonise coir, peat-reduced mixes, rockwool and perlite. Thriving in a wide pH range, strain 34 is active between 15-35ºC, with optimal activity at 20-35ºC.

Coping with abiotic stress

ASPERELLO® not only defends – it stimulates root development enhancing nutrient efficiency, improving the plant’s ability to cope with abiotic stresses, like heat and drought.

A natural biopesticide, ASPERELLO® supports a healthier, more resilient growing environment, aligning with modern IPM and sustainability goals.
